The new PrairieCare Children's Psychiatric Hospital, an affiliate of the University of Minnesota's Medical School, will be located in Brooklyn Park, at the corner of Hightway 610 and Zane Av. N., according to CBRE.

The 10.5-acre parcel, purchased by North Dakota-based IRET, will soon be home to the 72,000-square-foot facility that is slated to open in September 2015.

PrairieCare considered a number of locations in the northwestern Metro for the project before deciding on the Astra Village Master Plan area of Brooklyn Park, CBRE said.

The building will be a multi-story facility with 50 patient rooms, doctors' offices, exam rooms and support facilities.

Tom DeSautel and Brandon Megal of CBRE's Minneapolis Corporate Services Group, as well as Richard Palmiter and Brian Pankratz of CBRE's Minneapolis Land Services Group, represented PrairieCare in its search for a new location.

Brooklyn Park Mayo, Jeff Lunde said in a statement, "Prairie Care offers a vital service that's needed in the Northwest Metro. We are proud that they have chosen to make Brooklyn Park their home. It's an exciting development that continues to strengthen the commercial corridor along Highway 610. This also advances our commitment to the youth in our community and Brooklyn Park's future success."

PrairieCare provides in-patient mental health treatment for children and teens, including school curriculum counseling. The average length of stay is seven to 10 days for treatment.
