JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The retiree from Maine who won a $590 million Powerball jackpot in May has bought a 6,300-square-foot, five-bedroom home in a gated golf course community in southeast Jacksonville, Fla.
Eighty-four-year-old Gloria MacKenzie has remained in the shadows since coming forward to claim the prize. She took a lump sum of $371 million that totaled $278 million after taxes. She bought her winning ticket May 18 in Zephyrhills (ZEH'-fur-hils), Fla., where she lived in a rental apartment.
The Tampa Bay Times reports (http://bit.ly/12Y59HG) that property records show the deed to the $1.175 million Jacksonville home was transferred to trustee Melinda MacKenzie on June 21.
Gloria MacKenzie has a daughter by the same name. Her son, Scott, who had a standing agreement to split the prize with his mother, also lives in Jacksonville.
