Three quick thoughts from the game:

1. Setback for Liam Hendriks. Liam Hendriks was on fire at Rochester before he was called up and looked nothing like it on Saturday. He fell behind in the count frequently and paid the price when he left pitches up in the strike zone. This is a golden opportunity for him because the Twins - who are back on pace to lose 99 games - are hungry for starting pitching. He's going to get another chance to start and really needs to impress.

2. Review/Replay. For a moment, it looked like the Brewers were going to be brought back onto the field at the end of the first inning. Josh Willingham was called out on a close play at first base to end the inning. Willingham and first base coach Jerry White complained to first base umpire Larry Vanover. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire spoke with Vanover, and Vanover called in the other three umpires for a conference. They decided not to check replay. This didn't come up after the game but it might worth asking Gardy tomorrow what when down on the field. I've never seen a conference on a play like that before.

Then the umpires went to replay on Darin Mastroianni's drive down the left field line late in the game. It sure looked foul to me, so I was mildly surprised they needed to look at that one.

3. Defense. One of the plays of the year occurred in the eighth when Brian Dozier went to his left to grab Cody Ransom's ground ball and flipped with his glove hand to Jamey Carroll to start a double play. Nicely done.

3a. My Defense. Every game, I look out into the section in from of me to see where the kids are sitting so I know where I want to go if I ever get a foul ball in the pressbox. That moment came in the fourth inning when a ball off Brian Dozier's bat came straight to me....and I dropped it. I heard boos. I was attacked on twitter. My boss was at the game and probably thinks less of me now (his son even attacked me on twitter), Dan Gladden proudly described the play on KSTP. I even got a one word text from a Twins official that read, 'Boooooooo!' None of that mattered to me. In 15 years on this beat, I've never had a chance to catch a ball like that. And I loused it up. I stink.
