86 percent of Minnesota voters support changing current gun laws which allow "dangerous people like felons and domestic abusers buy guns without a background check," according to new polling released by Americans for Responsible Solutions.

Americans for Responsible Solutions is "committed to advancing commonsense change that makes communities safer from gun violence" and was founded by former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Navy combat veteran and retired NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly.

Peter Ambler, Director of Americans for Responsible Solutions, said "this new research shows that Minnesotans want their leaders to close the loopholes in Minnesota law that makes it easy for dangerous people to buys guns without a background check. It is not a controversial idea - just a commonsense one."

The timing of the release of the polling information coincides with a hearing tomorrow in the Judiciary Committee of the Minnesota Senate on legislation by Senator Ron Latz, (DFL-St. Louis Park), requiring criminal background checks on firearm transfers.

In 2011, Giffords was shot in the head while meeting with constituents near Tuscon, Arizona. Giffords eventually resigned from Congress to focus on her recovery from the shooting - which killed six people - and later founded Americans for Responsible Solutions with her husband.
