A 17-year-old boy suspected of accidentally shooting his 2-month-old nephew in the neck inside a north Minneapolis home last week surrendered early Tuesday, police said.

The teen turned himself in about 1 a.m. to investigators at City Hall, according to police spokeswoman Cyndi Barrington.

He is being held in the juvenile detention center. Charges are pending.

Also Tuesday, police identified the baby as Isaac Lorenzo Early Jr. The child was wounded Thursday night in one of the duplex units in the 2400 block of Emerson Avenue N.

Isaac was in critical but stable condition Tuesday afternoon at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Isaac 's family initially told police that the child was shot by random gunfire as his father held him outside the home, but later admitted that the uncle shot him in what police have said was an accident.

The boy's father, Isaac L. Early, 24, was released from Hennepin County jail Tuesday after four days of detention. It wasn't immediately clear why he had been jailed.

Police said they are still looking for the firearm.
