Suspicions are high that the same young woman has robbed her second bank in less than two weeks in the Twin Cities.

The most recent holdup occurred Saturday afternoon in Maplewood at the TCF Bank branch inside a Cub Foods on County Road B near Rice Street, police said.

The young woman handed the teller a note, implied that she had a gun and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.

The suspect is described as white and in her early to mid-20s. She was wearing a gray sweatshirt with the hood up, black yoga pants and mostly black gym shoes. Her hair was dark, with possible highlights.

On March 23, a woman robbed the Firefly Credit Union in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis. She demanded money, intimated that she had a gun, and ran down the street with the cash, Minneapolis police.

The Minneapolis suspect was described as white, 22 to 30 years old, 130 to 140 pounds, with blond hair. She was wearing black yoga pants, a black sweatshirt that zippered in front with the hood pulled up, dark sunglasses and mostly black gym shoes.

Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell said Tuesday that "some similarities in the description" with the Minneapolis suspect leave him confident that it's the same woman who pulled off both heists.

"Females are relatively rare in itself" to be robbing banks, Schnell said. "And then the two are roughly the same age and wearing some of the same clothing. These are strong clues."

Schnell said his department received several tips overnight "but nothing solid."

Anyone with information about the Maplewood robbery is urged to call police at 651-767-0640. Anonymous text message tips can also be sent by texting "Maplewood" followed by the tip to Tip411 (847411).
