A 25-year-old man broke into his ex-girlfriend's St. Cloud apartment and set fire to her bedroom as she slept in another room early Saturday morning, police said.

No one was injured in the blaze that was confined to the 21-year-old victim's bedroom.

Almiqdam Abdullatif Aldhuwayhi, also of St. Cloud, is being held at the Stearns County jail on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree arson, violation of a domestic abuse no-contact order, and several DWI-related offenses.

Authorities were dispacthed to an apartment complex in the 800 block of 13th Street S. just before 6 a.m., where residents of the 38-unit building were evacuated, police said.

Aldhuwayi was found a short time later sleeping in his vehicle, appearing intoxicated, police said. He had a no-contact order against him, preventing any interaction with the victim. Aldhuwayi was arrested without incident.

Fire officials estimated the fire caused about $30,000 of damage to the apartment. All tenants were allowed to move back in the building Saturday except for the victim.

The St. Cloud Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit and the St. Cloud Fire Department are working together on the case.
