Two people are dead after separate overnight shootings in St. Paul and Maplewood, and authorities said Saturday that suspects in both killings were still at large.

St. Paul police said officers responding to a reported shooting found a man shot in a parking lot in the 1100 block of W. University Avenue around 2 a.m. He died after being taken to Regions Hospital, they said.

Investigators were interviewing witnesses and processing the scene for evidence Saturday morning, police said. No suspects had been named or arrested, and the Ramsey County medical examiner will identify the victim.

At 4:47 a.m., Maplewood Police and paramedics were called to a home in the 2200 block of Hazel Street on reports of a shooting. Police said they found a 31-year-old man, a resident of the home, dead at the scene. A woman was also in the home when the shooting occurred but was not injured and is being interviewed by investigators.

According to a traffic scanner recording posted on the MN Police Clips Facebook page, the man's wife called police and said an unknown man came into the house and shot her husband. She said she heard her husband yell and then heard a gunshot, but did not see the suspect before he fled and was unable to provide a description.

In an update posted online Saturday afternoon, Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell said that although questions remained regarding motive, investigators do not believe the shooting was random.

"It is now believed that the suspect[s] targeted this particular residence, which is one of the key focuses of investigators at this time," Schnell wrote.

Police said that they searched the neighborhood with dogs but did not find a suspect and that no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting. They said they also discovered signs of forced entry into the home.

Maplewood police and the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension's crime scene team continued working at the scene Saturday morning.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Maplewood Police Department at 651-767-0640 or send an anonymous text message by typing the keyword "Maplewood" followed by any information to TIP 411 (847411).
