MONTGOMERY, Minn. — Police say an 8-year-old girl has died a day after crashing her bike and hitting her head on a rock in Le Sueur County.
Montgomery police chief John Schmidt said the girl died Monday at Hennepin County Medical Center. He said she was riding her bike Sunday on a path near a pond in Montgomery when she crashed, going into the pond and hitting her head.
According to Schmidt, the girl was alert and crying when taken to a hospital Sunday in New Prague. She was later flown to the Minneapolis hospital, where she died.
Schmidt said the Hennepin County Medical Examiner will do an autopsy to determine the cause of the girl's death.
