Police: Feared Minn. kidnapping was just prank

July 8, 2013 at 9:40PM

FOREST LAKE, Minn. — Police say a potential kidnapping caught on security video at a Wal-Mart store in Forest Lake was just a hoax by four sisters.

A witness told police a female got out of the trunk of a car that had parked in front of the store Sunday evening, but was chased by a passenger who caught her and put her back in the trunk. The car then sped off. The video confirmed the witness' statements.

On Monday afternoon, police say, officers got a call from the mother of the four young women involved in the incident.

Investigators say they also found video evidence of the prank on the subjects' phones.

Capt. Greg Weiss says charges are possible. One of the sisters is a juvenile while the other three are adults.
