One member of former coach Tubby Smith's staff will stay at Minnesota.
Multiple U of M sources said Thursday that Steve Goodson — the former special assistant to Smith — will remain on the Gophers staff as new coach Richard Pitino's director of basketball operations.
Minnesota had hired Mike Balado, previously an assistant at Florida International, for that position, but he has resigned, a Gophers source said. Balado has been wooed for an assistant job at Florida International, but there is no indication as of yet whether he will accept that job.
Goodson joins a staff that so far includes former FIU assistant Kimani Young and former Gophers player and Nebraska assistant Ben Johnson. Pitino said earlier this week that he is "close" to filling out his entire staff.
