Running back Adrian Peterson is returning to the Vikings today.

Peterson rejoined his teammates at Winter Park for voluntary organized team activities this morning. The team has announced a 2:30 p.m. news conference with Peterson and coach Mike Zimmer at Winter Park.

Peterson opted to stay away last week for the start of OTAs. In a statement released to ESPN, he said he did that not because he was trying to force a trade, but that it was "about securing my future with the Vikings."

A day later, he ranted on Twitter about the NFL's non-guaranteed deals.

It seemed then as if Peterson's standoff with the Vikings could stretch into training camp next month. But Peterson has decided to return today. There has been no contract restructuring.

"I'm returning because I want to. I'm a part of this football team and I owe it to the guys I play with and to our coaches," Peterson told ESPN this morning. "I was planning on coming in this week, and I'm looking forward to getting back on the field. It's what I love to do."

In an e-mail to the Associated Press, Peterson said: "I've been away from the game for an entire season. I wanted the chance to be around the players and coaches, the guys that really matter to me."
