MIRANDA JULY: 'NEW SOCIETY'

Thursday-Friday: The Onion headline — "Miranda July Called Before Congress to Explain Exactly What Her Whole Thing Is" — got at the bewildering array of her artistic undertakings. The list includes movies ("Me and You and Everyone We Know," "The Future"), short stories ("No One Belongs Here More Than You") and a forthcoming first novel ("The First Bad Man"). There's also sculpture, video, the design of a new $1,500 purse with built-in almond holder, not to mention an app called Somebody, which allows users to write a message to someone they know, and possibly have it delivered in person by a stranger. Better get downloading. July, no stranger to Walker Art Center ("The Future" had its area premiere there in 2011), is booked this week for "New Society," a world premiere about which little is known, but it appears there will be an audience-participation component. (8 p.m. Thu.-Fri. $30. Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls., 612-375-7600, www.walkerart.org.)
