Wolves center Nikola Pekovic has bone spurs on his right ankle that may require post-season surgery.

His injury doesn't necessarily mean he won't play again this season. Pekovic, who is wearing a boot on his right ankle, will miss today's game with Denver and will not play on the team's two-game road trip to Memphis and Charlotte, but hopes the ankle can calm down enough for him to return Friday against Boston here at Target Center.

"I will try to calm it down and try to play some more games, all the way to the end," Pekovic said. "Then, in the summer, maybe we'll do something."

Pekovic said he has only seen one doctor so far, and that he plans on getting a second opinion before deciding for sure on surgery. He said the bone spurs are from an old injury, not something that happened this season. Pekovic also said his left ankle has become sore while trying to compensate for the right ankle.

Meanwhile, Wolves coach Rick Adelman said Michael Beasley (sore toe) will try to go today. The Wolves, coming off that tough road trip and the double-overtime loss in Oklahoma City that ended it, are a banged-up bunch. Beasley is sore, as is guard Luke Ridnour, who has been nursing a sore back. He got banged up at the end of regulation Friday, but played through the two overtimes.

And a couple other things. Rave reviews of Kevin Love are becoming common these days. But, in the wake of Love's 51-point performance in Oklahoma City, Denver coach George Karl had something very nice to say: "I think we used to call him a poor man's Larry Bird," Karl said. "I think you can take "poor man" off that comparison now."
