Gophers goalie Kent Patterson was named college hockey player of the month for October by the Hockey Commissioners' Association.

His teammate, winger Kyle Rau, was HCA national rookie of the month.

Patterson, a senior, was 7-1 with a 1.74 goals-against average and three shutouts in October.

Rau had seven goals and six assists in the Gophers' first eight games. He is the top scoring freshman in the nation.

The runners-up to Patterson were forwards Bill Arnold of Boston College, Kyle De Laurell of Air Force, Jeremy Langlois of Quinnipiac and Anders Lee of Notre Dame.

The freshman honorable mention players were forwards Cole Gunner of Air Force, Phil Di Giuseppe of Michigan, Johnny Gaudreau of Boston College and Matthew Peca of Quinnipiac.
