Metro Transit will be replacing light-rail tracks at the intersection of 5th Street and Hennepin Avenue over the weekend, and a couple of key downtown Minneapolis streets will be closed while the work is done.

Starting at 7 p.m. Friday and lasting until 5 a.m. Monday, Hennepin Avenue will be closed between 4th and 6th Streets.

The north side of 5th Street will be shut down between Marquette Avenue and Hennepin Avenue. The south side of 5th Street will remain open between Marquette and Hennepin. Also closed: 5th Street from Hennepin Avenue to 1st Avenue N.

Detours will be posted.

The closure is in conjunction with a shutdown of light-rail service in the downtown area. Buses will fill in for trains between Target Field Station and Franklin Avenue for Blue Line riders. Green Line trains will not run between Target Field and the Stadium Village station at the University of Minnesota.

Trains will run as normal elsewhere along both lines.
