Regular seasons don't usually tie a bow so neatly around themselves, but the Gophers' 79-76 loss to Penn State on Sunday, clinched on a three-pointer at the buzzer, could not have been a more fitting ending to a disappointing year.

The Gophers lost and found themselves so many times Sunday, much as they have done all year. The inconsistency added up to a 6-12 conference record, with the real killer being a 4-5 home mark.

You can't lose more than half your Big Ten home games and try to convince anyone luck just wasn't on your side. The Gophers earned exactly what they deserved all year.

REAL GENIUS The Eagles traded RB LeSean McCoy and are expected to sign Frank Gore, who is five years older. Interesting, Chip Kelly.

A LONG LOOK Jose Berrios is going to make it really tough on the Twins. The young righthander looks major league-ready right now.
