Over 36 hours have passed since the strong earthquake devastated Haiti, but theimpoverished nation continues to feel aftershocks. The three aftershocks feltthis morning have been centered progressively closer to the Haitian capital ofPort-au-Prince.The latest aftershock occurred at 5:32 a.m. EST this morning. The 4.5-magnitudeaftershock was centered about 20 miles west-southwest of Port-au-Prince.

Two other aftershocks rumbled before that. At 3:15 a.m., a 4.7-magnitudeaftershock occurred about 30 miles west-southwest of Port-au-Prince. Roughlythree hours earlier, a 4.4-magnitude aftershock rumbled 35 miles west of thecapital.

Haiti has been enduring multiple aftershocks since the powerful earthquakeoccurred late Tuesday afternoon. That first earthquake had a magnitude of 7.0,and its epicenter was within 15 miles of Port-au-Prince.

The earthquake has turned nearly all of Port-au-Prince and the surrounding areainto rubble. Rescue efforts are underway to free more survivors from collapsedbuildings. Officials estimate more than 100,000 people have died.
