The sky is overcast and a very light rain, more of a mist, is falling at TCF Bank Stadium, but it's nothing that should disrupt today's game (I know -- said the guy who's sitting inside the press box).
The Gophers are warming up on the field, and they've gone back to their traditional uniforms -- maroon jersey, gold pants and maroon helmets, no sign of the whites now that they're back home. Jeff Horton is watching some of the players do some early stretching; I imagine he's feeling a little nervous as he prepares for his first game as head coach since 1998 (and tries for his first victory since Oct. 11, 1997, a 21-19 upset of TCU -- his 16-game losing streak began a week later).
Penn State is in their generic whites, which always remind me of the little men on my electric football game from my childhood. (I keep expecting the field to vibrate and the players to wiggle over to the sidelines -- man, I miss that game.)
Anyway, I received a few emails about the security, and I can assure you, there was nothing out of the ordinary at the stadium. The tailgate lots are busy as usual (well, not as many fans as in previous games, but that's about the 1-6 record, not the Secret Service), and from what I could tell, all roads are open as normal. From my press-box perch, I can see security central over at the fieldhouse, where the president will appear at a rally this afternoon, but it shouldn't affect anyone coming to the game.
Also, for those who missed it: The game is on ESPNU, not one of the main ESPN channels. (Hard to find? Don't worry, next week's game is on Ch. 5.)
