Overrated

If you've ever doubted the enduring genius of Hans Christian Andersen, consider the modern-day analog to "The Emperor's New Clothes." It might be called "The Gasbag's New Influence." And who are the people suckered in by this slick charade that insists on Rush Limbaugh's significance in our national debate? The fractured media cottage industry, so desperate for controversy that it inflates Limbaugh's already gargantuan head. This is a guy whose opinion matters to maybe 30 percent of the American people. Stick a pin in him.

Underrated

So he wasn't Billy Crystal, big deal. Hugh Jackman put the show back in show biz when he hosted the Academy Awards. It's an impossible job that saws off giants faster than Paul Bunyan. Jackman at least showed some hustle, some savoir faire, humor and a dancing song style. He dipped into the low comedy demanded of Oscar telecasts, but he still showed enough class and grace that it felt as if he were hosting the Tonys.
