Prior Lake-Savage

Open enrollment closed at two schools

Open enrollment for nonresidents has closed at two elementary schools for the 2015-16 school year. Students who live outside the district can no longer apply to attend Redtail Ridge and Glendale elementaries because class sizes at those schools need to be limited.

Nonresident families will still be considered for enrollment at Five Hawks, Jeffers Pond, WestWood, Grainwood, or Spanish immersion at Edgewood. Both district middle schools are also still open for nonresident enrollment. Prior Lake High School is currently closed to open enrollment.

The open enrollment closure doesn't affect families moving into the district. Resident families can still apply to transfer to another district school, with applications being reviewed individually.

To participate, students must attend an elementary school in the district, be in second through fourth grade in 2014-15 (and 8 to 12 years old), and have a Body Mass Index at the 75th percentile or higher. Parents or guardians must participate with the child.

Shakopee

Professional studies program offered

The Shakopee district has signed an agreement to implement a new professional studies program, set to begin in the fall of 2015.

The district will partner with Blue Valley Schools, a Nebraska district, to provide the Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) model.

CAPS is an elective program for juniors and seniors allowing students to earn dual credit with Shakopee High and Normandale Community College.

A network of 16 other school districts in multiple states also offer the model.

Shakopee will be working with two area businesses when the program begins, St. Francis Regional Medical Center and Shutterfly. Students in the healthcare and medicine program will work with St. Francis while those in the digital design program will collaborate with Shutterfly.
