Tyler Hong, Mankato • 55-inch muskie • metro-area lake

Just a few minutes before noon on July 8, Hong, fishing with friend Austin MacLeod of Victoria, reeled in this muskie after a short but fierce fight. The fish, above, ate a black and red bucktail jig over 100 feet out on the cast. The fish was released.

SECRET WEAPON

Clara Ekegren Schmid, 9, of St. Paul caught this 7-pound, 9-ounce northern on Woman Lake near Longville on July 15 while trolling with her grandfather Gene Schmid's "secret weapon" lure. She won the kid's fishing contest at Broadwater Lodge with this catch.

POWER WORM GETS THE BASS

Dylan Rengstorf, 8, of Little Canada, caught this 19-inch, 4½-pound bass on Spider Lake (near Nevis) at dusk last week using a Power Worm.
