One Day University is bringing top business professors to Minneapolis on March 18.

The speakers — Meg Rithmire of Harvard Business School, Arnold Barnett of MIT's Sloan School of Management, William Duggan of Columbia Business School and Aks Zaheer of the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management — will speak on global capitalism, risk, corporate culture and strategy in a program co-sponsored by the Star Tribune.

"There's a fascination with a lot of people as to what the best professors from the top universities are really like," said Steven Schragis, founder and director of One Day University. "You would have no way of knowing unless you enrolled for $60,000 a year."

The idea is to give participants a sampling of the best of what business schools have to offer, he said.

The session at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center will be the sixth time that One Day University has held a Twin Cities event and the first focused on business. The other events have been on liberal arts topics such as "the science of happiness," Schragis said.

"Minneapolis is a city that has a lot of businesses," he said. "Having never done this here before, we thought it would be a good idea."

Schragis founded One Day University in 2006, inspired by what happened when he dropped off his daughter at college. Several professors were giving talks on their areas of expertise to parents on campus. "Everybody loved it. I loved it," Schragis said. "Everybody left feeling the same thing: 'I wish I was going to college.' "

One Day University now partners with about 50 newspapers across the country to host 80 to 100 live events a year in more than 30 markets. People also can subscribe to watch videos of the events.

Class sizes for the Minneapolis event will range from 200 to 300. Professors will take questions and there is a scheduled lunch break. Registration is $149 with the code "BIZ149" at www.onedayu.com or 1-800-300-3438.
