The former co-owner of an acclaimed Jamaican gourmet restaurant in the Iron Range enclave of Gilbert, Minn., has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman during a visit to her apartment.

Anthony (Toney) Douglas Curtis, 51, a Jamaican immigrant whose Whistling Bird restaurant got years of rave reviews before closing in 2009, was charged in St. Louis County District Court with two counts of criminal sexual conduct, the Mesabi Daily News reports.

Curtis is accused of forcing himself on the woman while staying overnight at her apartment on Sept. 9. She told authorities that she noticed in the morning that her telephone was disconnected from the wall, and she couldn't call out.
