Dance doubleheader

Choreographers Sharon Picasso and Anat Shinar share a program this week for Red Eye Theater's New Work, 4 Weeks festival. Picasso's "Speculative Sentence" plays with chance, with various light sources — including motion detector and handheld devices — randomly revealing or hiding four dancers. Shinar's "Here's How (Refuted)" draws on self-help books for a piece revealing her own struggles with anxiety. (8 p.m. Thu.- Sat., 7 p.m. Sun., Red Eye Theater, 15 W. 14th. St., Mpls., $18, pay what you can Thu., 612-870-0309, redeyetheater.org.)

SHEILA REGAN

Dat Black Mermaid Man Lady

Premiering Friday, this show — billed as an "immersive procession with communal prayers and theatrical jazz" — is intended as a ritual of healing and hope. The narrative by playwright Sharon Bridgforth orbits a next-generation healer who is being trained by figures both rooted and divine to appreciate the different ways of embodying gender and spirituality. The talented cast, directed by Ebony Noelle Golden, includes Aimee K. Bryant, Mankwe Ndosi and vocal powerhouse PaviElle French. (7:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 3 p.m. Sun. Ends June 24. Pillsbury House Theatre, 3501 Chicago Av. S., Mpls. $5-$25. 612-825-0459 or pillsburyhouseandtheatre.org.)
