Kasich to launch campaign July 21

Ohio Gov. John Kasich plans to announce his presidential campaign July 21, entering a packed race for the 2016 Republican nomination.

He will announce his bid at Ohio State University, his alma mater, and then head to New Hampshire, which holds the nation's first presidential primary, for two days of campaigning before visiting other early voting states.

Kasich, 63, lags far behind other candidates and expected candidates in the polls, but his advisers say he has strong potential and would be a formidable contender once voters get to know him.
