An Oakdale man has been charged with pushing a store employee into the trunk of her car and groping the woman.

Kevin J. Johnson, 38, is charged with fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct in the May 18 assault on a Dick's Sporting Goods employee in Roseville.

According to the complaint filed in Ramsey County district court: The woman went to her car about 8:20 p.m. and was placing items inside the trunk. Johnson walked up behind her and slapped and grabbed her buttocks with both hands.

He put his hands between the woman's shoulder blades and pushed her into the trunk, the complaint said. He ground his groin into her back as she kicked at him.

Johnson assaulted the woman for about a minute before getting into a car, the complaint said.

"As he pulled away, the man stopped and smiled [at the woman] before driving away," the charges said.

The woman told police she recognized him from the store. Surveillance video showed that Johnson entered the store at 7:30 p.m. and left around 8:04 p.m. Other surveillance video showed him driving around the lot and parking near the woman.

Johnson turned himself into police after someone he knew confronted him about news coverage of the assault. He told police he was attracted to the woman's athletic build, and that he touched her with his arm but did not push her or touch her with his pelvis.

Johnson told police he has committed similar acts twice before, at a Wal-Mart in Woodbury and at a Target in North St. Paul, according to the complaint. Court records do now show any charges in those cases.
