Two classic Minnesota names -- Kemp's ice cream, and Pearson's Nut Goodie candy bar -- are teaming as part of Kemp's limited edition Hometown Favorites series. And no, it's not candy bars swirled into vanilla ice cream.
"It's designed to taste just like a Pearson's Nut Goodie," said Josh Kurcinka, Kemp's marketing manager for frozen desserts. "It has that traditional maple background that is so distinct about the Nut Goodie, along with chocolate-covered peanuts and nougat chunks. We worked closely with the team at Pearson's to develop and test the formula."
Next up: Joe Mauer-endorsed Grand Slam Monster Cookie (peanut butter-flavored ice cream with chocolate pieces and oatmeal cookie bits) and, later this summer, Land of 10,000 Licks, a caramel-sea salt formula that took top honors in a contest at last year's Minnesota State Fair.
All are made at the company's Rochester ice cream factory and sold in Minnesota wherever Kemp's is available. Hurry, though. Nut Goodie ice cream will be available, "probably just through April," said Kurcinka.
