Notre Dame took over the No. 1 spot in the U.S. College Hockey Online men's poll, moving ahead of St. Cloud State after the Huskies split a series against the Gophers over the weekend.

Notre Dame (18-3-1) swept Michigan over the weekend, extending its winning streak to 15 games. The Fighting Irish received 40 of 50 first-place votes. St. Cloud State is No. 2 following its 5-2 victory and 2-0 loss to the Gophers, who moved up one spot to No. 9.

The Huskies (13-3-3) received six first-place votes.

Rounding out the top five were Clarkson, Cornell and Denver. Ohio State is sixth, followed by North Dakota, Minnesota State Mankato, the Gophers and Northeastern.

• Wisconsin remained a unanimous No. 1 in the USCHO.com women's poll, garnering all 15 first-place votes, while the Gophers moved up one spot to No. 5. Boston College is No. 2, followed by Clarkson and Colgate.

Pitts honored again

For the fifth time in her standout freshman season and the second week in a row, Gophers women's basketball guard/forward Destiny Pitts was named Big Ten freshman of the week. The Detroit native averaged 18 points and six rebounds per game as the Gophers went 1-1, with a home victory over Michigan State after a loss at then-No. 10 Ohio State. Pitts scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the loss at Ohio State, shooting 7-for-15 from three-point range.

Twins add infielder

The Twins signed Jordan Pacheco, who has played in 377 major league games, to a minor league contract.

In 2012, Pacheco played in 132 games for the Rockies and hit .309 with five home runs and 55 RBI and was sixth in the National League Rookie of the Year voting.

The 31-year-old utility man played in the independent Atlantic League last season for Long Island. Most of his major league time in the field has been at first base and third base. Pacheco has played in the majors with Arizona, Cincinnati and Colorado and is a career .297 minor league hitter.
