Northrop auditorium has named a new director of programming.

In her new role, Kristen Brogdon will be responsible for planning and executing the University of Minnesota venue's performance seasons, including dance, music and other special events. Reached by phone Tuesday, Brodgon said she plans to maintain a certain consistency with the offerings. "One of the things I really like about Northrop's programming is its nod to important ballet and contemporary dance companies through history, and also this search for something new," she said.

Northrop's 2019-20 season, due to be announced April 17, was planned by Christine Tschida, the outgoing artistic director for Northrop's dance series. Dance lovers can expect to see Brogdon's mark on the 2020-21 season when it's announced next year.

Brogdon comes to Northrop from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she directed the Office of the Arts. She previously spent eight years at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and nine years at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

After earning her graduate degree in arts administration from the University of Wisconsin, Brogdon initally hoped to work in orchestra management. "Dance was a place where I felt a whole lot of connection to the art form, and I felt I could make an impact," she said. "I felt there weren't as many people taking the risk to go into dance."

Brogdon starts her new job in June.
