Placing defensive end Jared DeVries (knee) on IR saved the Lions from having to cut a respected veteran. Already stuck behind Cliff Avril, DeVries sank even farther with last week's trade for Seattle's Lawrence Jackson. Keep an eye on Jackson. He's young (24), he's a motivated draft bust (28th overall in 2008) and he only cost the Lions a sixth-round pick in 2011.

The Bears went into Saturday night's regular-season dress rehearsal having done basically nothing well this preseason. How much of that is expected being that it's the preseason, and how much of that is a concern considering the boys in the tough-guy town couldn't pass protect, run block consistently or play defense without looking half asleep? It is still the preseason, but there were some nervous folks heading into Saturday's kickoff.

Aaron Rodgers completed 21 of 29 passes and saw his passer rating go down to 142.3 in Thursday's 59-24 rout of the Colts. Rodgers has completed 41 of 53 passes for 470 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions this preseason. He's ready to roll, folks. The Packers' pass defense showed early that it might not be.
