More farmers markets get going

Several north metro farmers markets are beginning their seasons this week and next. Here's a sampling:

Champlin: Wednesdays, starting today (July 8), from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ice Forum parking lot, 120th Avenue N. and Hwy. 169.

Osseo: Tuesdays (starting July 7), from 3 to 8 p.m., at 5th Street NE., north of Boerboom Park.

Coon Rapids: Wednesdays (starting July 15), from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Ice Arena, 11000 Crooked Lake Blvd.

Anoka: Thursdays (starting July 16), from 2-5 p.m. at Lyric Arts Main Street Stage, 420 E. Main St.

Ramsey: Thursdays (starting July 16), from 3 to 7 p.m., 7401 E. Ramsey Pkwy.

BLAINE

Family Fun Night on July 14 at Aquatore

Aquatore Park will be the setting for an evening of family-friendly activities from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14. The event, which is free, will include kids' carnival games, a vehicle fair and inflatables. It's presented by Blaine Parks an d Recreation Department. Kids' Triathlon set for July 25

The second annual Blaine Kids Triathlon will be held Saturday, July 25, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Lakeside Commons Park, 3020 Lake Pkwy., Blaine. The competition is for ages 7-14 and consists of a 100- or 165-yard swim; a 2.3-mile bike ride, and a 1-mile run. The fee is $30 for residents and $33 for nonresidents. The Blaine Triathlon for adults will be held Sept. 12, also at Lakeside Commons Park. That event will include a 0.3-mile swim, a 16.7-mile bike ride and a 3.5-mile run. It was moved from May this year to give swimmers a shot at warmer water.

Anoka

Home, garden tour is this Sunday

The annual Anoka Heritage Home and Garden Tour is coming up on Sunday, July 12, from 1 to 5 p.m. The tour will feature the Dunham Oaks Neighborhood just north of the Anoka County Fairgrounds on the Rum River. It's presented by the Anoka Heritage Preservation Commission and the Anoka County Historical Society.

Outdoor puppet show at Banfill-Locke

On Sunday, Open Eye Figure Theatre will present the puppet show "The Adventures of Juan Bobo" on the lawn outside Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts, 6666 E. River Road, Fridley.

Show time is 1 p.m. and the performance free.
