If you're in the appetite for an Independence Day fireworks display, here are a couple of options today in the north metro area, along with information about related events at the sites.

Coon Rapids

After a few years of transition in Coon Rapids, the North Star Lions and the Fire Relief Association have taken over management and funding of the carnival and the popular fireworks display. This year's display cost $25,500. No city money went to fund them. The city also has established a Community Strength Foundation to manage contributions, as well as the city's allocation from the Twin Cities Gateway tourism board and a share of charitable gambling revenue in the city. For information about contributing, call City Hall, 763-767-6432, or send a check to Community Strength Foundation, 11155 Robinson Dr., Coon Rapids, MN 55433.

Today's events, at Sand Creek Park, 1008 Northdale Blvd.:

• Noon: Midway, bingo, pull tabs.

• Noon-5 p.m.: Carnival. Unlimited ride wristbands are $20.

• 6-10 p.m.: Music by DJ K-FULT Productions.

• 10 p.m.: Fireworks display, run by Coon Rapids firefighters.

Blaine

As it has in recent years, the city will stage its fireworks display at the National Sports Center, 1700 105th Av. NE, after tonight's Minnesota Stars game against the Puerto Rico Islanders. Parking and viewing are available in the center's lots, and in and around the facility's soccer fields. Between the end of the game and the start of the show, kids are invited onto the NSC Stadium's field to kick soccer balls and meet the players. The Blaine fireworks display cost the city $25,000.

• 7:30 p.m.: Minnesota Stars game.

• 10 p.m.: Fireworks display.
