Two golfers representing schools in the north and east metro are finalists for Ms. and Mr. Minnesota Golf.

Maddy Messin of Forest Lake and Parker Anderson of Stillwater are among the 10 senior finalists in each gender. Winners will be announced at 6 p.m. on June 11 at the Windsong Farm Golf Club. Both golfers helped their teams to this week's Class 3A state tournament.

Created in 2016, the Ms. and Mr. Minnesota Golf awards recognize the outstanding male and female high school senior golfer based on performance, academic achievement and strength of character. Finalists are chosen by a committee of high school coaches and amateur golf representatives.

State qualifiers

Section medalists headed to the golf state tournament include, on the boys' side, Caleb Van Arragon of Blaine and on the girls' side, Hannah Bruns of Roseville, Kiera Smith of Heritage Christian Academy in Maple Grove and Maija Tanberg of Forest Lake.

Harris up for Hall of Fame

Former Brooklyn Center football standout Marcus Harris, the 1992 Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year, has been selected as one of the eligible players for the 2018 National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame class.

Harris, who played at Wyoming, was a two-time All-America and won the 1996 Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver. He was the NCAA's all-time career leader with 4,518 receiving yards, a mark still good for fourth.
