At speeds topping 90 miles per hour, a 15-year-old boy with no valid driver's license and a teenage runaway girl in the vehicle with him tried in vain to flee a sheriff's deputy in central Minnesota, authorities said.

The late-night pursuit of roughly 10 miles ended north of Willmar early Friday, with the driver arrested and no injuries reported, according to the Kandiyohi Sheriff's Office.

Because of their age, authorities did not identify the teens.

According to the Sheriff's Office:

In the process of making a traffic stop about 2:45 a.m. Friday at Hwys. 71 and 9 northwest of New London, a deputy saw a sport-utility vehicle roar past on southbound Hwy. 71 at more than 80 mph. The deputy gave chase, with the SUV reaching nearly 95 mph.

"The pursuit was terminated" on the Hwy. 71 /23 bypass near the Willmar exit, the Sheriff's Office statement said, adding only that the deputy's squad car was slightly damaged.

The boy behind the wheel was arrested, and a 16-year-old runaway from Albany, Minn., was found to be with him.

Fleeing a peace officer in a vehicle, reckless driving and driving without a license are among the potential charges against the boy.
