Gophers basketball player Reggie Lynch wasn't charged in a sexual assault case, but he will remain suspended until after a school investigation.

Minnesota coach Richard Pitino said Thursday on 1500-AM there was no timetable, but it could be three weeks before a decision is made on Lynch. It still appears likely the 6-foot-9 center from Edina will return to practice this fall.

The Hennepin County Attorney's office announced Monday there was insufficient evidence to press charges after Lynch was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 19-year-old woman in May.

"There's a school investigation going on," Pitino said on the radio. "So we're still waiting until that ends. I don't really know the time table on it. My guess would be soon. But I don't really know. (Gophers basketball players) leave tomorrow and are gone until that first football game (Sept. 1 vs. Oregon State). So that's about three weeks or so. I'll assume we'll have some clarity then and we'll go from there. We're waiting for the school investigation to be done and we'll make some decisions after that."

Lynch, who sat out last season after transferring from Illinois State, was projected to be the Gophers' starting center. He missed all team practices and workouts this summer after the suspension.

The U's statement on Lynch this week states:

"The University is aware that the Hennepin County Attorney's office has declined charges related to a member of the Gopher men's basketball team. At this time, the student-athlete's status remains unchanged. Due to privacy restrictions relating to student educational data, there is nothing further to share."

Practice facility update

The Gophers basketball team's new practice facility could be open as early as December 2017, Pitino said Thursday. The most recent date on the Athlete's Village site is January 2018.

"We're looking like next December we'll be able to get in there," Pitino told 1500-AM. "A little bit depends on this winter (weather)."

New images were posted this week on the designs for the practice facility, which Pitino tweeted.
