DJ mania at Epic

What a week it's going to be for Epic. On Saturday, the club has legendary DJ Grandmaster Flash, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year and just penned a memoir, "The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash," with co-writer David Ritz. There'll also be a B-boy and B-girl break-dance battle and live painting by Chris Allen during Flash's set. (10 p.m. Sat. 110 N. 5th St., Mpls. $10. 18 & older. 612-332-3742. www.epicmpls.com) Then on Thursday, one of the world's most popular DJs touches down in Minneapolis. Trance phenom Tiësto played Myth last year, but this time Epic has him. The Dutch DJ knows how to rock a crowd -- he's packed stadiums in Europe and performed at the opening of the 2004 Olympics. (10 p.m. Thu. $35 advance/$40 door. 18 and older.) Read more about Epic in Chris Riemenschneider's column on page F5.

Bikes, bags, a benefit

Messenger-bag fans -- and I know there are a lot of you out there -- need to check out this cool event called "Imaginary Bags." One on One Bicycle Studio and Crumpler bags have teamed up to create a limited series of bike bags designed by local and national artists. The bike/coffee shop will close out its weeklong display of the bags with a party tonight, which includes a fashion show featuring the bags and music by DJ Millions Billions and the Haves Have It. The bags are being auctioned, with proceeds going to a memorial fund for Mark Loesch, a Minneapolis resident who was killed last year while on a bike ride near his home. Shop with Pharrell

Superproducer Pharrell of the Neptunes will be chilling in Uptown Wednesday afternoon. The hitmaker opens for Kanye West that night at the Target Center, but he's scheduled to make an appearance beforehand at Status, a boutique that carries his clothing line, Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream. The store, which specializes in high-end sneakers, is celebrating its new Uptown location. It's hoped that Pharrell's band, N.E.R.D., might perform at the store as well. The grand-opening hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with Pharrell expected between 2 and 4 p.m. (1203 Lagoon Av., Mpls. 612-824-3100. www.statusstyle.net)
