Minneapolis' best man

It'll be raining men at the Pantages Theatre on Saturday when the winner of "One Man Minneapolis" is chosen. Creator Scott Mayer said this is more than a male beauty pageant. The reality-show spectacle narrowed down 200-plus applicants (some via online voting) to find the most stunning male example of "community involvement, personality, intelligence, and fitness." The five finalists will be judged onstage for wardrobe and during an interview segment (the audience can weigh in by text message). The winner gets $5,000 and a $1,000 donation to his favorite charity. The show is hosted by actresses Stacia Rice and Christiana Clark, and features entertainment by singer Erin Schwab, the cast of "When a Man Loves a Diva" and a preview of Theatre Latté Da's "The Full Monty."

Beer dinners come to Frogtown

A Vietnamese restaurant in St. Paul's Frogtown area is now one of the top destinations for finding Minnesota brews. The stylish Ngon Vietnamese Bistro already offers daily cask beer and 13 all-Minnesotan draft lines. Now, it's adding beer dinners. Its first one is Tuesday on the restaurant's new garden patio. Owner Hai Truong is calling it a "locavore" beer dinner because most everything is locally sourced. The beer comes from Lift Bridge, the upstart Stillwater brewery that's generated a great buzz. Truong will pair the beers with a five-course dinner (house-cured duck prosciutto, short ribs braised with pho spices, etc.). Tickets are $50. Call or stop in ahead of time. Truong wants to make beer dinners a monthly occurrence at Ngon.

Stub and Herb's b-day

The University of Minnesota bar turns 70 on Thursday. Apparently, the first beer to ever go on tap at Stub and Herb's was Grain Belt Premium, so the bar will celebrate by offering 70-cent Grain Belt taps all day. Happy hour will also be all day.

Better than Festivus?

The geniuses behind Trivia Mafia have created a new holiday, Laborial Day. It lands halfway between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and will be celebrated this Sunday at the 331 Club. Mainly it's just an excuse to party at the Trivia Mafia's weekly trivia night. But they've thrown in a scavenger hunt, too. The person who finds the true "Laborial Stone" -- hidden somewhere in the city -- will win a Pabst Blue Ribbon cruiser-bicycle. Clues began appearing on their website this week (www.triviamafia.com).
