Comedy club opens

If you're a stand-up-comedy fan in the south metro, chances are you've been to one of Michael Orensteen's shows. For the better part of four years, the airline pilot (recently laid off) has been hosting stand-up gigs at various bars under the name MinneHaHa Comedy Club. Now he's finally found a permanent home for the club in the lower level of Anthony's Parkway Grille in Burnsville (formerly Benchwarmer Bob's). The club's first shows in the 125-seat space are today and Saturday, featuring Seattle comedian Gabe Rutledge (he'll be featured on Comedy Central's "Live at Gotham" next week). Orensteen will probably get onstage, too. He's known to tell a few jokes about flying planes. ("Once I get started on a crossword puzzle, I don't stop for nothing," he said.) Zing!

8 p.m. today, 8 and 10:30 p.m. Sat. 251 W. Burnsville Pkwy., Burnsville. $12 for 8 p.m. show, $8.50 for 10:30 p.m. show. 612-860-9388. www.minnehahacomedyclub.com.

Dead deer gets you free beer

Here's a funny promotion. Every year during the Minnesota deer opener, Keegan's Pub sees "an unusual number of unescorted women in the pub." So the bar is offering "Deer Widow Weekend," where widows (and widowers) can get a free drink with any food purchase.

Fri.-Sun. 16 University Av. NE., Mpls.

Two words: beer pong

No Vikings on Sunday? No problem. Sneaky Pete's in downtown Minneapolis is hosting a sporting event everyone can enjoy -- its massive 2009 beer pong tournament. The bar is hoping for 64 teams on Sunday. The winning crew will drink their way to glory and the possibility of winning $1,000. It costs $25 to enter (includes beer). Deadline to sign up is Saturday.

3 p.m. Sun. 14 N. 5th St., Mpls. $25.
