Banking on the ballpark The next restaurant/bar to open (or rather, reopen) near Target Field boasts a name familiar to longtime Twins fans. Former shortstop Roy Smalley will be the face of a concept that is replacing Champps in Butler Square. The grand opening for Smalley's 87 Club is scheduled for April 9 (the restaurant is open during remodeling). Smalley, who was on the 1987 championship team, is an analyst for Fox Sports North. The owners also brought on Tim "Giggles" Weiss, formerly of Gabe's on the Park, as a consultant to help operate the bar. Weiss said a Texas company will outfit the bar with $100,000 in sports collectibles, which customers can buy right off the walls. Smalley's will be family-friendly, even offering Nintendo DS systems for kids to play during dinner. The bar also will sell Twins ticket packages.

Dancing bikinis Hot fashion show alert: Arena Bikini is back at Aqua. This year, the show is called "Haute & Cold" and features swimwear by Twin Cities designers and some national brands, too. "Project Runway's" Christopher Straub will make a special appearance. Saturday's show will raise money for Mathew Janczewski's Arena Dances, a nonprofit dance company. Look for members of the company to dance their way down the runway. DJ Corey Valentine will provide the beats.

7-11 p.m. Sat. $35 advance/$40 door. 21 and older. 612-804-0238. www.arenabikini.org.

Night at the library Trust me, the librarians won't be telling you to "shhh!" at this event. On Thursday, the St. Paul Central Library will host "Book It: The Party." The shindig will features a spelling bee (with host John Cosgrove), food by superstar chef Tim McKee, music by DJ Jake Rudh, a scavenger hunt and cocktails. The party is presented by the Friends of the St. Paul Public Library, a nonprofit group that's really into reading (and raising awareness for the library).

7-10 p.m. Thu. 90 W. 4th St., St. Paul. $30 ($25 with any library card). Info: 651-222-3242 or www.thefriends.org.

331 Club gets old One of northeast Minneapolis' coolest bars, the 331 Club, will celebrate its five-year anniversary with a week of doing what it does best: offering some of the most creative nights in the dive-bar business. My suggestions: Chuck & Sean's Trivia on Sunday, blingo on Tuesday, Le Cirque Rouge on Thursday and the return of the Drinkin' Spelling Bee on April 3.

Sun.-April 3. 331 13th Av. NE., Mpls. 612-331-1746. www.331club.mn.
