Nightlife news & notes: Fair State's get-together

This week in brewery openings, Nordeast newcomer Fair State Brewing Cooperative is officially serving Twin Cities taproom fiends. Not just a clever name, Fair State is Minnesota's first co-op brewery spearheaded by college buds Evan Sallee, Matthew Hauck and brewmaster Niko Tonks, who is coming off a short stint as head brewer at nearby Sociable Cider Werks. The upstart suds factory has kept irregular hours while finding its footing, so check the website before hitting the 1,250-square-foot beer hall. (2506 Central Av. After eight years of frenetic beats, biweekly drum 'n' bass party Konkrete Jungle is retiring. The long-running dance night comes full circle with its Wednesday farewell bash, bringing in Chicago's Danny the Wild Child, who played Konkrete Jungle Minneapolis' inaugural party at the late Foundation nightclub in 2006. M1D1 and MC QuestionMark also perform alongside the regular KJ crew. Don't fret dnb/jungle fans. It sounds like a new, similar party is in the works. Though craft breweries have been pushing Oktoberfest beers down our throats for months, actual Oktoberfest season is upon us. A Colorado-based events group is throwing a weekend-long Okto bash in downtown Minneapolis. The sausage, suds and sauerkraut fest is free, but VIP tickets ($50-$150) get you unlimited food and drink in a VIP section, a stein, T-shirt and festive headwear. Sam Adams OctoberFest will be flowing and entertainment includes keg bowling, a brat-eating contest and live music from Aaron & the Sea, Red Daughters, Danger Ron and the Spins, Enemy Planes and more. Green Line taproom tours officially become a thing Saturday when local beer-centric events group GetKnit throws its Rails & Ales Light Rail Brewery Crawl. Tickets to the sold-out event, which hits eight breweries from the North Loop (Fulton) to Lowertown (Tin Whiskers), include a light-rail pass, two beers, a T-shirt and access to special casks, firkins, tours and other throw-ins.
