The last out of Saints baseball at Midway Stadium has been recorded, but the last beer at the ballpark has yet to be poured. The sixth annual Summer Beer Dabbler moves to Midway with more than 85 breweries from around the state and country offering their wares on the field Saturday. The last dance

After 16 tequila-slinging years, Uptown's Bar Abilene closed abruptly this week. The Tex-Mex party bar and restaurant, owned by power couple Sam and Sylvia Kaplan, was home to one of Uptown's last dance floors and while it still drew a sizable late-night weekend crowd it was often sleepy before 11 p.m. in its twilight years. General manager Dave Paradeise said he was not surprised by the closing, which came with about a year and a half left on its lease. Within the past 18 months or so management had doubled its tap lines, tweaked its menu and made modest cosmetic renovations. "That was our effort to see if we could make something happen without doing anything too drastic," said Paradeise, whose father François was the president of operations and helped open the bar in 1998. RIP, tableside guacamole.

St. Paul taproom plans

After opening last year under an alternating proprietorship arrangement with Minnetonka's Lucid Brewing, Bad Weather Brewing will get a place of its own. Founders Zac Carpenter and Joe Giambruno announced plans to move into a space at 414 W. 7th St. in St. Paul during the first half of 2015 and open a 12,000-square-foot taproom. Under the alt-prop agreement, breweries are allowed to share space and equipment, lowering overhead. This spring fellow alt-proppers Badger Hill Brewing announced plans to build a brewery in Shakopee, which means Lucid might soon be an empty-nester. Microbreweries grow up so fast.
