No more Lure
Minneapolis is one strip club down. Last month downtown gentleman's club Lure quietly locked its doors after losing its liquor license due to unpaid taxes. A farewell Facebook post dated May 17 indicated that the tax issues dated back to the club's opening. Calls to the shuttered club were unanswered and messages could not be left.
Party bar partied out
Less than seven months after opening, downtown Minneapolis bar Johnny Tequila's Drinking Taco has gone dry. Last week's closing was no shocker, as there was never much of a party at this party bar. It's the latest in a string of bars going belly-up in the 1st Avenue space once home to Howl at the Moon, Refuge and Rosen's. Who knew Jäg-bombing bros were so picky?
Broder's offshoot opens
Institutional Italian restaurant Broders' Pasta Bar has expanded its south Minneapolis presence. On Wednesday, the Broder family opened Terzo, a new small-plates restaurant/wine bar in the longtime Pierre's Bistro space. Matriarchal restaurateur Molly Broder said her three sons' fingerprints are all over the Terzo menu, which will feature 50 wines by the glass and 10 tap beers. (2221 W. 50th St., Mpls.)
No. 6 on beer list
The Minneapolis-St. Paul beer scene got a nice ego boost, recently being named America's sixth-best beer city by Travel + Leisure. Apparently, voters dug our "outdoorsy, hipster vibe," as the Twin Cities jumped up nine spots in the readers' poll. Fulton's Worthy Adversary and Indeed's "retro" (read: steampunky) cans each got shoutouts, but T+L still found time to diss our winter weather. Wusses.
