Travelers can now get the latest edition of the official Minnesota State Highway map, which the Minnesota Department of Transportation started distributing Friday.

The 2013-14 maps show everything from major freeways and highways to county roads to gravel roads and those under construction.

The maps also feature the locations of rest areas, campgrounds, state and national forests, airports and bicycle trails. There also are breakout maps of large cities, a mileage chart and indexes to state parks and historical sites.

The maps are updated every two years and are a joint effort between the MnDOT, the state department of Administration and Explore Minnesota Tourism.

They are free and available online from Explore Minnesota or by sending an email to explore@state.mn.us. People can also call the Minnesota Office of Tourism at 651-296-5029.

State maps are also available in person at travel information centers and MnDOT district offices during staffed hours.
