New poll has guv's race a tossup

Dayton oh-so-slightly ahead of Emmer, Horner fading

October 22, 2010 at 4:24PM

A new poll by Rasmussen Reports shows DFLer Mark Dayton with a tiny (or, possibly, non-existent) lead over Republican Tom Emmer in the Minnesota governor's race. The Independence Party's Tom Horner's support has dropped to 10 percent of likely voters.

The survey found that Dayton had the support of 44 percent of those polled, while 41 percent favored Emmer. That gap is well within the poll's margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. Compared to Rasmussen's most recent previous poll, those numbers represent a slight strengthening of support for both Dayton and Emmer.

Horner, however, has seen his support droop from that earlier poll, when he was supported by 15 percent of likely voters.

Other recent polls have consistently shown Dayton with a modest lead in the race, with Horner unable to crack the 20 percent level of support he has said he needs to pull off a win.

Full poll results can be seen here.
