I am a native cheesehead and forever a Packers fan. I enjoyed watching Brett Favre play. But I have only one word to describe his "third coming": Pathetic.

Is there anything more pathetic than a person who refuses to face his/her own mortality with dignity and class? It's like the guy at the bar who thinks he's still "got it" trying to hit on much younger women, or the woman wearing her daughter's clothes.

How about some dignity and class, Mr. Favre? If you refuse to accept reality, at least show up for your close-up, spotlight moment (again) clean-shaven, wearing a clean hat and adult clothing. Pathetic.

Every breath he takes I am very concerned that now that Brett Favre has signed, you will no longer devote the front page of the paper to him as you have for the last several months. I will be disappointed that I will have to turn to the sports page to follow every breath that he takes. I am sure there are dozens and dozens of other Minnesotans like me.

Worries about an old guy's health What is this world coming to? It may be tempting to say that Brett Favre will help the Vikings to the Super Bowl, but my question of the day is what would the Vikes do if he (Favre) goes down with a season-ending injury in the first game of the season? Favre signing with the Vikings is like the Wild giving 47-year-old Chris Chelios a contract.

Quick revenue now, disappointment in January

The Brett Favre signing has removed the veil from Zygi Wilf, Brad Childress and Vikings leadership. They are not concerned with building a strong core of players who will mesh and provide the best years Minnesota football has ever known. They instead signed a one-year, quick-fix who alienates people better than anyone but Terrell Owens.

Brett Favre is on this team because the team will now sell tickets. Here's the catch: In the past few years, he has produced career worsts in every important category. He isn't a championship quarterback anymore, even with a great surrounding cast.

So, the Vikings signed a declining star who is unlikely to produce the numbers he once did, let alone an MVP award, but paid an exorbitant price just for the name on his jersey, all ensuring that Purple fans will be let down once again come January? You betcha.

Two acquisitions in August ... Brad Childress called Favre. Bill Smith called Carl Pavano. Which team wins the division?

... is one a garage-sale special? If you spent a lot of money at your neighbor's garage sale on an old, used coffee-maker, a percolator that occasional kitchen visits had taught you didn't always perk very well, would you be as excited about that used appliance as Minnesotans are about Brett Favre?

ROBERT ALBERTI, MINNEAPOLIS

News judgment out the window Where are our priorities when the local television networks break into the national evening news to cover a press conference with Brett Favre? He may be a great asset to the Vikings, but should his signing trump all world and national events of the day? This is one football fan the Vikings just alienated.
