Plenty of cool kids claim to be nerds, but how many of them play regular games of D&D and write songs about Anakin Skywalker's home planet? Messersmith is the real deal.
Q: Do you identify as a nerd? If not, it will be awkward for our cover.
A: Yeah, I definitely identify as one. Kind of a musician nerd.
Q: When did you play your first game of D&D? Were you always a Dungeon Master?
A: No, not always a Dungeon Master. In fact, I played my first D&D game at 19. I was working as a computer tech and a bunch of the other guys played, so one day over lunch we turned the break room into a D&D office.
Q: Do you remember your first character?
A: Ah, yes. My character was a Halfling warrior named Smackie.
Q: Your song "Tatooine" was a big hit with the "Star Wars" crowd. Do you have anything in store for Trekkies?
A: No, not at this point. I started a song about McCoy, but it never really got there.
Q: Were you ever contacted by George Lucas about "Tatooine"?
A: No. I may have been slightly harsh on him when I first posted the video and called him a "victim of his own success." But I would still love it if he contacted me.
