Monster mash

Reviews of "The X-Files" have encouraged viewers to keep the drawer closed — with the exception of the monster-of-the-week episode that features everything from a great comic turn by Rhys Darby to a Gillian Anderson sex scene. There's lot of knowing winks to the cult audience, including a certain familiar ringtone for Mulder's phone. Let's hope creator Chris Carter keeps his tongue so firmly in cheek for the rest of the six-episode run. 7 p.m. KMSP, Ch. 9

Meet the press

If the NFL can turn Draft Day into must-see TV, why not do the same for its biggest game's Media Day? What was once considered drudge work for sports reporters is now the centerpiece of "Super Bowl Opening Night," a three-hour fest with music and interviews from a stadium in San Jose. Coming soon: "Live! Tight Ends Try on New Shoes!" 7 p.m. NFL Network

Get to the point

I have yet to see the remake of "Point Break," but I can't imagine it's nearly as exhilarating as the 1991 original in which Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze compete to see who gets the most out of the cheesy dialogue. Future Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker") lets the boys be boys to great effect. 8:45 p.m. Encore
