You've got a friend

George Lucas may have about as much to do with the new "Star Wars" as the gal popping corn in the theater lobby, but there's no doubt he deserves to be saluted during "The Kennedy Center Honors," the closest thing the American arts community has to knighthood. Cicely Tyson, Rita Moreno, Seiji Ozawa and Carole King also join the royal court in what always turns out to be one of network TV's classiest nights. 8 p.m. WCCO, Ch. 4

Big time

Robert Loggia, who passed away earlier this month, puts aside his gruff persona to trip the lights fantastic in 1988's "Big." It may be best known as the film that proved Tom Hanks was more than just a tousled hair cutup, but it was also a showcase for an actor who was all too often limited to playing the heavy. Quick aside: What ever happened to director Penny Marshall? Cinema could certainly use her gift for sensitive storytelling these days. 8 p.m. VH1 Classic

O, Canada!

"MasterChef Canada" is designed to show off the culinary skills of our northern neighbors through contests that include a Mystery Box, but because the cooks are all Canucks, they'll probably call a truce halfway through omelet preparations and go catch a Celine Dion concert. 8 p.m. Cooking ChannelNeal Justin
