NBA commissioner: 'I am in absolute favor of players speaking out'

Asked about the Lynx T-shirts, commissioner Adam Silver said he wants players to speak on issues important to them, but is concerned 'about using our uniforms for political expression.'

At Tuesday's meeting of the NBA Board of Governors, commissioner Adam Silver held a press conference, at which he was asked about the Minnesota Lynx players wearing T-shirts and team captains holding a pregame press conference in which they addressed last week's deaths in Falcon Heights, Baton Rouge and Dallas. The question was phrased this way:

A couple nights ago four members of the Minnesota Lynx wore t-shirts to kind of protest the killings, and then the Dallas officers and security walked out, off-duty police officers. Just want to get your thoughts on that. And secondly, will the league have any reaction or response to that? And thirdly, what do you think of players such as Carmelo Anthony making statements on his own about these issues?
